What visa route should Indian travellers use for Iraq?
Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular guidance directs travellers to the official electronic visa platform at eservice.evisa.iq for electronic entry-visa applications. The published visa-on-arrival notice lists specific nationalities and does not list India, so an Indian passport holder should not rely on visa on arrival unless a newer official instruction specifically confirms eligibility.
Use the official eVisa or consular route that matches the purpose of travel. Prepare the passport, intended dates, accommodation/host details, purpose evidence and funding consistently, and follow any additional requirements shown by the official electronic system.
Documents to prepare
- Indian passport used for the application and travel
- Official Iraq eVisa application details
- Travel dates and route
- Accommodation, host or invitation information
- Financial evidence appropriate to the visit
- Purpose-specific business/family/religious documents where applicable
- Valid contact information used for the eVisa account/application
- Any additional evidence requested by the Iraqi system or mission
Do not assume an Iraq visa on arrival for an Indian passport
The Iraqi MOFA visa-on-arrival guidance names eligible passport groups and does not include India in that published list. For an Indian passport, check the official eVisa platform and current Iraqi mission guidance before booking non-refundable travel.
Build a consistent visitor file
Names, passport details, dates, accommodation, transport, leave dates, funding and sponsorship should remain consistent across the application and supporting evidence. If one part of the trip changes, update every affected document before submission.
For supporting evidence, see our bank-statement guide, cover-letter guide and day-by-day itinerary generator.
