Switzerland visitor visa overview

A Switzerland short-stay Schengen application from the UAE must be lodged through the Swiss route when Switzerland or Liechtenstein is the relevant main destination. The applicant should be a legal UAE resident and the supporting file must match the real purpose, dates, funding and itinerary.

The Swiss Embassy in Abu Dhabi processes applications from permanent residents of the UAE and Bahrain for eligible Switzerland/Liechtenstein trips. Short-stay applications are currently submitted through VFS Global in Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

Swiss guidance says third-country nationals living in the UAE should provide UAE residence documents and Emirates ID, with the residence permission valid for at least one month beyond the planned return from the Schengen area, or evidence that renewal has been requested.

Switzerland Schengen visa route from UAE

  1. Confirm Switzerland/Liechtenstein is the correct main destination. The Swiss representation will not accept a file where another Schengen country is the main destination.
  2. Complete the required visa application form. Current Swiss guidance requires online form completion before appointment booking under the present VFS contract.
  3. Book VFS in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Submission is by prior registration and appointment.
  4. Prepare the harmonised Schengen supporting file. UAE residence, insurance, funds, purpose, accommodation and return ties should all be consistent.
  5. Attend personally when required. The Swiss authorities may request personal appearance or additional checks in individual cases.

Documents to prepare carefully

  • Passport and copies required by the Swiss Schengen checklist
  • Completed Schengen application form and compliant photograph
  • UAE residence evidence and Emirates ID with sufficient post-return validity or renewal evidence
  • Travel medical insurance meeting current Schengen requirements
  • Accommodation and transport information consistent with the itinerary
  • Recent financial evidence appropriate to the stay
  • Employment/NOC, business, study or retirement evidence as applicable
  • Invitation and host/relationship evidence for private visits where relevant
  • Business invitation and employer/company evidence for business travel
  • A clear explanation for sponsorship, previous refusals or other unusual circumstances
This is a preparation framework, not a substitute for the current official checklist. Submit only genuine, accurate and verifiable documents.
