Germany’s Entry/Exit System is now in operation

Germany’s missions in the UAE state that the European Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026. It digitally records entries and exits for people travelling to the Schengen area for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

What changes at the border

  • At entry, border authorities may collect personal information, travel-document details, fingerprints and a facial image.
  • Entries and exits are recorded digitally rather than through manual passport stamps.
  • Some airports provide self-service systems intended to help speed up border procedures.

What EES does not change

EES does not change visa, entry or residence requirements. Check whether you need a visa and prepare the correct visitor-visa documentation separately before travel.

For application preparation from the UAE, see our Germany visa documentation guide. Always confirm your individual entry and visa position with the official German and EU sources before travelling.
