New Zealand visitor visa application system change
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has announced that, from 24 September 2026, new applications for most visitor visas can no longer be created in its old online system. New applications for the affected visitor visa types must be started through enhanced Immigration Online.
This update follows the move of Group Visitor Visa and Tour Escort Visitor Visa applications to enhanced Immigration Online on 24 August 2026. It is relevant to travellers applying from the UAE, India or another country who use an affected New Zealand visitor visa application form.
Key dates to note
- 24 September 2026: applicants will no longer be able to create new applications for the affected visitor visa forms in the old system.
- 8 October 2026: remaining draft applications in the old system will be deleted. Applicants who have not submitted by then will need to begin a new application in enhanced Immigration Online.
What happens to existing applications and drafts?
INZ says applications already submitted through the old system do not need to be submitted again. Applicants can continue to access submitted old-system applications to upload documents and respond to INZ requests until a decision is made and communicated.
A draft that has not been submitted is different. Draft holders should check which system they are using and complete their application before the relevant deadline, or be prepared to start again in enhanced Immigration Online after the old-system draft closure.
Before starting an application
- Confirm the visitor visa category that matches the purpose of travel.
- Use Immigration New Zealand’s official visa page and online-application guidance to check the correct application channel.
- Keep copies of submitted forms, payment confirmations and uploaded documents.
- Do not rely on an old saved draft after 8 October 2026.
